What is a Floor Spot?

A Floor Spot is a short performance by an individual, duo or group before the main guest artist takes to the stage. Most Floor Spots take place during the first half of the evening, although occasionally they may be scheduled before the second half of the guest's performance.​One of the Club's resident performers will open the evening and introduce each Floor Spot.

Floor Spots provide an excellent opportunity for performers of all experience levels to play before a friendly, appreciative and attentive audience.​Whether you're taking your first steps onto a stage, trying out new material or simply sharing your love of folk music, Floor Spots are a valued part of the Club's evenings. They also help introduce new performers to the Club while adding variety to the programme for our audience.

How do I book a Floor Spot?

As one of the country's longest-established and busiest folk clubs, we strongly recommend booking your Floor Spot in advance. Please click here to send us an email, or speak to one of the organisers if you are a regular visitor.​Because the evening is carefully scheduled and the PA system is set up before the event begins, it is rarely possible to accommodate requests made on the night. Booking ahead is the best way to avoid disappointment.

How long is a Floor Spot?

The length of a Floor Spot depends on the evening's programme and the requirements of the booked guest artist.As a guide, performers are usually allocated around 10 minutes, rather than a fixed number of songs. This helps ensure the evening runs to time.

Will I ever be refused a Floor Spot ?

We do our best to accommodate everyone who would like to perform. However, there may be occasions when the programme is already full or unforeseen circumstances mean a Floor Spot cannot go ahead.The organisers reserve the right to postpone, shorten or cancel a Floor Spot if necessary to ensure the smooth running of the evening.

Is there a performance fee?

Floor Spots are unpaid.We hope, however, that the opportunity to perform before an appreciative audience at one of the UK's most respected and long-established folk clubs is a rewarding experience in itself.
